Buying nice clothes for a conference is just an excuse to play "grown up" as a graduate student.

K: I'm a PhD graduate student, journal reader, microsurgeon, and defender of science. Life is tough. This is a snapshot into the life of a graduate student who is less than a year from graduating. All of the mysterious "graduation" things that need to happen in the next several months will be recorded here in some format. Writing a thesis, turning a CV into a resume, applying for jobs, publishing papers, committee meetings... All of the flaming hoops to jump though, and each one that I've stumbled into and have caught fire. Really, I'm just trying to graduate.
